Astoria Greengrass background

Astoria Greengrass was born 1982.

And she was the 2nd daughter of the Greengrass family.

But were they your ordinary wizards and witches?

Not in the slightest.

You see, the Greengrass family was 1 of the oldest pure-blood families in the wizarding world.

So all of Astoria’s ancestors were capable of magic.

Yet what did that mean for her upbringing?

Well, Astoria was taught a lot about pure-blood supremacy.

So when she turned 11 years old…

It’s not shocking that she became a Slytherin in Hogwarts, just like her sister, Daphne.

Plus, she was loving and ambitious too…

Which were among the better traits of the Slytherin house

Unfortunately, her years at Hogwarts would be cut short.

Because Astoria was far too young to defend the castle from dark wizards.

But sometime after the events of the wizarding war…

Astoria would finish her studies.

Astoria Greengrass occupation

There’s not much information about Astoria’s career.

In fact, we don’t even know much about her performance in school too.

But since Astoria might be a relative to Gareth Greengrass.

A Minister at the Department of Mysteries that handled secret research.

There’s a good chance Astoria also ended up working at the Ministry.

Either through the help of family connections…

Or out of her own hard work and ambitious nature.

However, she did end up marrying Draco Malfoy in her later life.

So there’s also the possibility that Draco led a full-time career…

While Astoria managed their household.

But if you’re curious about what their little family looked like.

You can actually see Astoria and Draco together by the end of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2:

Astoria Greengrass character

Astoria was a smart-looking woman.

She had long brown hair.

And Astoria often styled it upward to reveal her face…

But let the rest flow down to shoulder level.

Astoria also preferred business and formal attire.

Like the blue blazer and long skirt outfit she wore to send her son, Scorpius, off to Hogwarts.

Meanwhile, as for her personality…

Astoria started out like any other Slytherin.

She believed in pure-blood supremacy.

And often looked down on those who couldn’t use magic.

Or didn’t come from the same background as her.

Luckily, she did change and become much kinder later in the story.

More facts about Astoria Greengrass

#1: She’s a lot kinder than her family

As far as pure-bloods go…

The Greengrass family was your typical supremacist type.

And they weren’t exactly the kindest set of people in the neighborhood.

As a result, Astoria grew up believing in the same things.

Like looking down on those who couldn’t use magic.

Or avoiding people who didn’t come from a pure-blood background.

And despite how bad that sounds…

It became a huge part of Astoria’s identity.

But after the events of the 2nd Wizarding War

Her life perspective changed.

And after seeing all the evil Voldemort caused during his return to power…

Astoria became a lot more tolerant.

In fact, she turned her back on the Greengrass family ideals.

So she’s a lot kinder than you’d expect.

Plus, it’s a smart decision too.

Because research shows that having friends affects your happiness.

And you can’t connect with people if you shun a big group of wizards and witches away.

#2: Draco’s parents were against their marriage

Draco's Parents Were Against Their Marriage

Draco’s parents weren’t the best people.

For example, just look at his father, Lucius Malfoy.

A loyal Death Eater of Voldemort’s army.

And a dark wizard that was always up to no good.

But Draco’s parents did change by the end of the series.

Because Lucius and Narcissa didn’t fight alongside the dark wizards…

Choosing to look for their son instead.

And that showed how much they loved him.

So Draco’s parents must’ve changed their ways then, right?

Well, it turned out that Draco’s parents were still picky with people.

And that’s because when Draco introduced Astoria…

Lucius and Narcissa didn’t like her.

They thought Draco could do better.

Someone who still held the same pure-blood values.

On the bright side, Draco stood up for Astoria.

And he went against his parents’ wishes…

Marrying Astoria Greengrass because Draco knew she was the one.

In fact, Astoria even said:

“It was one of the most courageous things I’ve ever seen”.

#3: She didn’t want Draco to be alone

Astoria’s husband, Draco, didn’t have many friends.

Sure, he did have Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle growing up…

But Crabbe died during the Battle of Hogwarts.

And Goyle still held the same evil pure-blood ideals.

As a result, Astoria was pretty worried that Draco would end up alone.

So what did she decide to do then?

Well, she made it her life’s mission to start a family with Draco Malfoy.

Even if Draco said that he didn’t mind if they only had each other.

Luckily, Astoria managed to get pregnant.

But after Scorpius Malfoy was born…

Astoria became extremely weak.

So Draco had to focus on caring for his wife and newborn son.

However, at the very least, Astoria managed to fulfill her promise.

And even research agrees with her decision too.

Because a person’s well-being also relies on family relationships.

So I’m sure they’re much happier together as a family.

#4: Still 1 of the remaining pure-blood families

Both Astoria and Draco were fed up with pure-blood supremacy.

And they learned a lot from the 2nd Wizarding War…

Especially about tolerance and being more open to others.

But the funny part?

Well, even if the 2 never meant to do it…

They’re still 1 of the remaining pure-blood families in the wizarding world.

You see, both Greengrass and Malfoy were among the Sacred 28

A list of families that were purely wizards and witches…

Dating all the way back to the Middle Ages.

So it’s kind of poetic that Astoria and Draco ended up together.

#5: A blood curse took her life

Astoria may have been a strong woman.

But she suffered from a blood curse.

An illness Astoria couldn’t fix…

Because there was no telling when the curse would pop up again in their bloodline.

On the bright side, she managed to live a fulfilling life.

Like marrying Draco Malfoy…

And even starting a family together.

But after giving birth to her son, Scorpius…

Astoria became very frail.

So when her body was in a weakened state.

There was no fighting the blood curse that ate away at her health.

And no matter how hard Draco Malfoy tried…

It was no use.

Nothing he could’ve done would save his wife, Astoria.

Of course, Draco still had his son.

And the 2 of them loved and respected each other.

But I can only imagine what type of pain Draco felt.

Because research points out that grief isn’t an easy emotion to deal with.

In fact, it can even lead to anxiety and depression…

Especially without proper support.
