Monsters beyond your wildest imaginations.

Bane (Centaur) background
Bane’s a Centaur.
These are creatures with an upper body of a man.
And a lower body resembling a horse.
They have long, pointed ears.
Plus, their hair colors can vary from black to chestnut, and, on rare occasions, blonde.
Bane, in particular, was rather black-haired and black-bodied.
He looked very rough and wild.
Even for a Centaur.
“That’s so cool. Are they also half-breeds? Born from a human and a horse?”
While they appear to be half-breeds.
Centaurs are actually their very own species.
In fact, it’s one of the rudest things you can say to them.
For example, when Dolores Umbridge (Senior Undersecretary to the Minister for Magic) said:
“By the laws laid down by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, any attack by half-breeds such as yourselves on a human —”
Bane got very angry at her remarks.
He even shot an arrow above Ms. Umbridge’s head.
A mocking threat.
But a very serious one.
Bane eventually dragged her deep into the Forbidden Forest.
A dense collection of ancient trees and home to many dark and dangerous creatures.
And I definitely recommend watching that clip again because it’s just so funny:
“Bane sounds like a very strict centaur. Has he always been this way?”
Well, he’s always been hostile around humans.
In fact, this isn’t the first time we get to see the centaur in action.
All the way back in 1992, Bane would meet Harry Potter.
Sadly, it wasn’t a good introduction.
Firenze, another centaur, was reading the young wizard’s future.
But Bane didn’t take too kindly to humans.
In fact, he wasn’t just wary of them.
He preferred not interacting with them.
Bane also said:
“For the best! What is that to do with us? Centaurs are concerned with what has been foretold! It is not our business to run around like donkeys after stray humans in our forest!”
However, a study proves people like making friends with a person from another culture.
It’s their way of learning new things.
But, somehow, this doesn’t apply to Bane.
He just hates humans.
Bane (Centaur) occupation
Bane doesn’t follow the typical description of a job.
So don’t expect the centaur to man a cash register.
Or, serve you a Butterbeer (slightly-alcoholic drink) on your night out.
But he’s a member of the Forbidden Forest centaur colony.
A group of centaurs that lived in the Forbidden Forest since the 19th century.
And despite their looks, these beasts are highly intelligent.
They prefer spending their time studying the stars.
Even practicing many kinds of divination.
The ability to predict the future.
And you can bet that Bane did these too.
Also, due to his hostility against humans.
He spends his time protecting centaur territory.
It’s why he doesn’t like it when Harry and Hermoine enter their home.
In his eyes, they just trespassed.
And that’s a good enough reason to hunt them down.
Bane (Centaur) character
Bane may sound like he’s bad.
And while he does have moments where you question his actions.
The centaur does redeem himself from time to time.
For example, in the Battle of Hogwarts.
A clash on the school grounds that would determine the fate of the wizarding world.
Bane was there ready to help, although rather hesitant to step in.
However, when Harry Potter seemingly sacrificed himself.
And Hagrid called out to the centaurs and said they were cowards for not helping.
The colony immediately charged into the battle.
In fact, they broke through the Death Eaters.
Dangerous wizards that used Dark magic.
And stood with Hogwarts in the Great Hall.
Of course, it’s sad that it took a bit of guilt-tripping to make Bane help.
In fact, research shows shame’s a very powerful emotion.
And the feeling of inferiority can also push someone.
But at least they made the right choice.
Even if it was at the very last minute.
More facts about Bane (Centaur)
#1: Bane saw the son of Harry Potter’s dark future
Remember when we said centaurs could see the future?
Well, Bane used his divination skills.
But not just on any random person.
It was Albus Severus Potter, son of Harry Potter.
You see, Albus had gone missing.
So everybody went to the Forbidden Forest looking for him.
And Bane took the chance to talk with Harry.
He warned him of impending doom.
Because he saw a black cloud over his son’s head.
And if Lord Voldemort wanted to kill Harry.
Who knows what kind of challenges are waiting for his son?
#2: Bane’s a master archer
Centaurs are known for their skills with the bow.
In fact, it’s their main choice of weaponry.
However, Bane’s not your ordinary archer.
He’s quite the master with the arrows.
When he aimed at Dolores, he didn’t miss on purpose.
The centaur made sure it grazed her hair.
A feat that would take extreme precision.
And if it were any other archer…
Well, let’s just say that scene would’ve been a lot bloodier.
#3: Bane would come to understand the humans
The centaur did hate humans.
However, he eventually warmed up to the idea of working with them.
In fact, even Bane welcomed back Firenze.
A fellow beast that left the colony.
Because he was called to teach divination at Hogwarts.
And after the Battle of Hogwarts.
Most centaurs came to agree that pro-human views weren’t that bad.
Which is a pretty sweet development to see in the present time.
Teaching us that no matter what our differences are, there’s always a chance to get along with others.
