Is Sirius Black evil?
Sirius Black is not evil. He’s just a misunderstood character with a bad past. What’s worse, Sirius was forced to stay in prison for over 12 years for a crime he never committed. As a result, he never got to live his life to the fullest. However, he always meant well and made plenty of right choices.
No one’s perfect
Everyone’s got flaws.
And Sirius Black was no exception.
He’s made very questionable decisions.
For example, visiting Harry Potter when it’s not safe.
Which almost ruined the mission of protecting Harry.
But did he do it to harm the young Potter?
No, of course not.
He cared for him.
And Sirius also knew that Harry wanted to see him.
His intentions were always good.
Plus, a lot of Sirius’ rash decision-making was caused by his past:
The lack of decent family memories and being forced to stay in prison for 12 years robbed Sirius of a good life.
Of course, we’re not saying his past justified being irresponsible.
But you’ve got to remember all the stuff Sirius went through…
And all the good things he could do despite the bad experience.
If you want to see his kind, courageous, and moral side.
7 scenes that prove that Sirius Black was not evil
#1: Revealing the truth behind Scabbers
Peter Pettigrew betrayed James and Lily Potter.
He gave up their secret location to Voldemort.
And that’s how the Dark Lord found and killed Harry’s parents.
But did anybody know about this fact?
Sadly, it was just Sirius Black.
Now, when he tried to confront Pettigrew…
Peter escaped, and Sirius was framed for everything.
And 12 years later, Sirius Black discovered where Peter was hiding all along.
And Pettigrew’s actually in Hogwarts. He just disguised himself as Ron’s pet rat, Scabbers.
But did Azkaban stop Sirius from taking action?
No, he broke out of prison.
In fact, he immediately raced toward Hogwarts.
And when he finally cornered Ron’s pet rat…
Sirius revealed Peter’s identity to Harry and his friends.
The real traitor behind the deaths of James and Lily Potter.
And while Sirius wasn’t in tip-top shape…
His determination to prove the truth was proof of his innocence.
So he’s far from being an evil person.
Plus, it’s a must-watch scene for any Harry Potter fan:
#2: Saying sorry about the bite
When Sirius Black tried his best to catch Peter Pettigrew…
The cunning rat always found a way to escape.
In fact, the only time he cornered him was by dragging Ron Weasley.
A kid he ended up biting…
And dragging all the way down with him too.
Now, I know it’s not a good look.
That’s probably what a bad guy would do.
However, Sirius Black did apologize.
And while it might not heal the scars or broken bones…
It shows he never meant to hurt Ron Weasley.
He just got in the way.
Plus, research proves forgiveness goes both ways. And it can reduce anxiety and depression.
So Sirius Black was doing right by Ron Weasley by saying sorry.
#3: Protecting Harry Potter from a werewolf
Remus Lupin was part werewolf. And he turned into a deadly beast during full moons.
Unfortunately, Harry, Sirius, and the rest of the gang were caught in a tough spot.
Remus forgot to take his medications…
So he made a full transformation and put everybody in danger.
But can you guess who saved the day?
Sirius Black got between Harry and the werewolf.
And even if Sirius wasn’t at full strength…
He was willing to risk his life to save the kids.
Which was a true testament that he’s selfless.
And no evil person would ever put themselves in harm’s way to protect others.
#4: Giving Harry Potter a picture of the Order
Although the circumstances around when Sirius Black gave it were questionable…
Especially since everybody else was worried about Harry’s safety…
Harry Potter wasn’t in the best headspace at that time.
He needed a familiar face.
And also a push in the right direction.
So when Sirius Black went out of his way to give him a picture…
The risk was worth it because Harry Potter needed that small motivation.
Plus, it wasn’t just some random photo.
It was a moving picture of the original members of the Order of the Phoenix. The same secret society that Harry’s father and mother joined.
Plus, you could see plenty of other notable wizards and witches. Like Elphias Doge, Dedalus Diggle, and even Aberforth Dumbledore.
Of course, it was still a dangerous move.
But it showed that Sirius Black always looked after Harry Potter.
And how can a selfless person like that ever be evil?
#5: Talking about his family’s tapestry
It might seem like a stretch at first.
But if you read between the lines…
You’ll see that Sirius Black’s just a wizard with a bad past.
He shared with Harry Potter that his family disowned him.
In fact, Sirius’ mother even burned his name off the family tapestry.
Of course, he doesn’t do anything heroic in this scene.
But you don’t have to put your life on the line to prove you’re not evil.
Sometimes, all you need to do is open up.
And that’s what Sirius Black did at this moment.
He showed Harry Potter his vulnerable side.
So Sirius isn’t evil…
He’s just a flawed character that still tries to do his best.
#6: Punching Lucius Malfoy in the face
Hurting people doesn’t sound like something a good person would do…
Especially if you’re punching them in the face.
However, doing it to Lucius Malfoy’s an exception.
You see, he’s a Death Eater.
And he’s the Dark Wizard responsible for trapping Harry Potter under Voldemort’s orders.
But can you guess who the 1st person to arrive and save Harry and his friends was?
Well, it’s none other than Sirius Black.
And in 1 of the most epic fight scenes from the film…
He started the battle off by punching Lucius in the face.
Sure, I won’t deny it’s violent.
But sometimes, good guys need to face evil forces directly.
#7: Sacrificing himself to save Harry Potter
Although Sirius Black saved Harry Potter’s life…
He couldn’t save his own from death.
You see, everything was going well…
Until Bellatrix Lestrange launched Sirius into the Veil of the Death Chamber.
And anyone who went through this was a goner.
Because it marked the passage between the land of the living and the dead.
As a result, Sirius sacrificed himself to save Harry Potter.
And while it may have been heartbreaking…
It’s proof that Sirius Black was never evil.
However, I still feel bad for Harry.
Research shows grief can take a toll on anybody’s health.
What’s worse, it can even lead to depression.
On the bright side, Sirius did show up again as a soul to convince Harry Potter that he was fine.
So at least things didn’t have to end on a sad cliffhanger.
