Marge Dursley background
Marge Dursley was born sometime before 1961.
She was Vernon Dursley‘s older sister.
And Petunia Dursley’s sister-in-law.
Marged loved showering her nephew, Dudley Dursley, with gifts.
In fact, she’d get him the most expensive ones money could buy.
In contrast, Marge absolutely despised Harry Potter.
She would take every chance to bully him…
And made Harry’s life a living hell whenever she was around.
Marge Dursley occupation
Marge Dursley worked as a dog breeder.
Her career focused on bulldogs.
And she owned 12 of them.
Ripper was her favorite out of all of them.
But he was also the most violent and dangerous of the litter too.
We don’t know if she had any other jobs…
But she must’ve been a successful dog breeder.
Because she could afford very expensive gifts.
Marge Dursley character
Marge looked a lot like her brother…
But a lot more powerful and dominant.
She had a large and beefy face.
And even a small mustache…
Which wasn’t as bushy as Vernon’s.
She was a cruel and abusive aunt to Harry Potter.
In fact, Marge enjoyed making everybody else’s lives miserable…
Except for Vernon, Petunia, and Dudley.
She also loved eating a lot.
And drank excessively whenever she had the chance.
More facts about Marge Dursley
#1: Never saw Harry Potter again
When Marge Dursley spent a week at the Dursleys…
That’s when many fans saw how bad of a person she really was.
Marge spent every second there looking down on Harry Potter.
And she wouldn’t let the boy out of her sight…
Because she wanted to insult and mock Harry every chance she got.
On the bright side, that’s how we got this iconic scene of her turning into a balloon:
You see, Marge Dursley went way overboard by badmouthing Harry’s parents.
And Harry hated every word that came out of her mouth…
He lost control of his magic and his emotions locked onto Marge.
Of course, authorities came to help Marge Dursley…
And they had to wipe her memory too.
But the best part?
Well, at least that was the last time Marge and Harry ever saw each other again.
Because Vernon and Petunia made sure Harry Potter would never be around when Marge came to visit.
#2: Not the best with snails
Although Marge acted like she could stuff anything down her throat…
She didn’t have the greatest experiences with snails.
You see, she was on a vacation to the Isle of Wight. A small island off the south coast of the English mainland.
But when she stayed there…
Marge ended up eating a very unpleasant snail.
In fact, she sent a postcard to the Dursleys that read:
“Marge’s ill. Ate a funny whelk…”
However, I don’t feel bad for her at all.
In fact, a bunch of fans will even agree she deserved it and a lot more.
#3: A love that was never meant to be
Love and romance is important.
In fact, even research agrees.
Because these very same feelings can lead to happiness.
Not to mention increased life satisfaction.
So what’s any of this got to do with aunt Marge Dursley, you ask?
Well, she actually fell in love too.
“Wait, you mean to tell me someone as evil as Marge was capable of loving?”
As crazy as it sounds…
It’s true.
She fell in love with her neighbor, Colonel Fubster.
A veteran of the British Armed Forces.
Unfortunately, Marge never had a chance with Fubster.
Because he disliked Marge’s personality.
In fact, many fans even agree with this to be the reason for Marge’s attitude…
Since she never got the love she wanted.
But the way I see it…
Colonel Fubster dodged a bullet.
And it must’ve been his soldier instincts helping him out.
#4: Trapped Harry Potter up a tree
I know it feels impossible.
Harry’s a lot more agile and got all these wizard powers.
So running away from Marge Dursley should be easy, right?
Well, this happened way before Harry had any idea about magic.
And during Dudley Dursley’s 10th birthday…
Harry accidentally stepped on Ripper’s paw.
So Marge’s bulldog chased him outside to the garden…
And Harry climbed up a tree to save himself.
But did Marge take pity on Harry and tell Ripper to go away?
No, she let her favorite bulldog carry on tormenting Harry Potter.
And this fact never sat right with many Harry Potter fans…
Because how could you be okay with the risk of a child being attacked by a dog?
In fact, research shows this to be a symptom of a psychopath…
Due to the extreme lack of empathy or guilt in Marge Dursley.
#5: Killed a puppy
If you thought Marge Dursley was cruel enough using Harry Potter as proof…
Did you know she actually killed 1 of her puppies?
I know it sounds way too convenient…
But it’s actually true.
When Marge saw 1 of her puppies looked weak.
She asked Colonel Fubster to drown them.
And her reasons?
Well, she said it was “underbred”.
What’s worse, Marge Dursley suggested that the same should have been done to Harry.
Because he had “a mean, runty look about him”.
And if you didn’t hate Marge before this…
I think ordering your neighbor to drown a puppy should be a clear sign.
Not to mention she’d be willing to do it to a kid as well.
#6: Always set up Harry to make him feel bad
It’s pretty odd how Marge Dursley was always at the right moment to insult or mess with Harry, right?
Well, it’s actually because she always planned ahead to make him feel bad.
For example, we have Dudley Dursley’s 5th birthday.
Dudley and Harry were playing musical statues.
So nothing bad could happen, right?
You see, Marge didn’t want Harry to have even the slightest chance of winning.
As a result, she kept whacking Harry Potter’s shins…
Just so Dudley would win all the time.
And if that doesn’t convince you.
We can look at some of her Christmas gifts for the boys.
Marge got Dudley a brand-new computerized robot.
And what about Harry Potter?
Well, Marge got him a box of dog biscuits.
So he would feel even worse because he could see what Dudley got.
#7: Supported the idea of physical punishments
Marge Dursley didn’t hurt Harry Potter just because she enjoyed it.
It was actually part of her belief in life.
Marge thought that physical punishments were necessary…
Especially for bad boys like Harry Potter.
“How’d her reasoning get so evil then?”
Well, apart from knowing very little about Harry’s parents…
She believed he attended St Brutus’s Secure Centre for Incurably Criminal Boys. A strict institution for violent male teenagers.
Marge Dursley agreed that beatings were the only way to correct Harry’s behavior.
And when Harry talked back to her…
Marge countered with:
“I still don’t like your tone, boy. If you can speak of your beatings in that casual way, they clearly aren’t hitting you hard enough. Petunia, I’d write to them if I were you. Make it clear that you approve the use of extreme force in this boy’s case.”
