A cartoon that doesn’t stop giving
SpongeBob Squarepants is one of the longest-running Nicktoons of the decade.
And it’s been airing live and making people smile since 1999.
But don’t let the title of a kid’s show fool you.
There’s a lot to unbox if you want to relive your memories.
So if you’re planning an overdue binge-watch…
Then you’re probably asking yourself this question:
“Just how long will it take me to go through everything?”
If we take a quick look at SpongeBob’s Golden Era…
The first three seasons aren’t that hard to watch.
You’ll only have to deal with 60 half-hour episodes.
And that comes to an estimated total of 30 hours.
So if you’re determined, a good 2 or 3 weekends should be enough.
Plus, it’s good for language practice too.
A study shows watching cartoons is great for teaching children…
And even adults alike, about new lingo.
Now, while you’re not technically a kid…
SpongeBob does have a way with words and sharing meaningful quotes about life.
Of course, let’s not get carried away.
Even if you get 3 down, there are another 10 you’ll need to go through (plus the movies, if you want to).
And this brings us to the crossroads of asking:
“What if I want to watch all 13 seasons of SpongeBob Squarepants?”
I will be honest with you.
That’s a very exciting yet time-consuming challenge.
We’re talking about 140 hours worth of Bikini Bottom adventures.
And that’s not even counting any spin-offs like Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show.
Or even any of the movies released this decade such as Sponge Out of Water and Sponge on the Run.
Not to mention that by the time you reach the end…
You might have the 14th season waiting for you already.
It was announced back on March 24, 2022, in Nickelodeon’s Upfront 2022.
And guess what?
That’s another 13 hours added to your schedule.
Are there any specific episodes I should watch?
There aren’t any specific episodes you’re required to watch.
You don’t need to know SpongeBob’s detailed history to understand the series as a whole.
In fact, many of the episodes can stand on their own because most are independent storylines.
For example, we have The Ballad of Filthy Muck episode.
It follows Patrick the starfish’s problem of not wanting to take a bath.
However, the citizens of Bikini Bottom didn’t take too kindly to his stench.
And by the end of the episode, Spongebob’s holding everyone back and defending his best friend.
You can even watch some of the highlights in this video:
However, if you’re interested in watching the deleted scenes as well…
There’s one in particular that I recommend:
The original US version of SpongeBob in Randomland episode.
In the deleted clip, Squidward opened a door only to see a horrifying image of himself.
He found a disturbing reflection with dark tears falling from his eyes…
While creepy music suddenly played in the background.
But in the revised version, all you’ll find is a cute baby picture of the octopus.
I won’t lie to you. That scene was very scary.
So you might want to avoid it if you don’t handle those things well.
Research shows stress can be extremely bad for your well-being.
And without proper coping skills…
The episode could have negative effects on your body and mind.
However, if you’re looking for more lighthearted ones…
I strongly suggest watching the two spin-offs:
Kamp Koral and The Patrick Star Show
The former explores the main cast’s younger years.
So if you want to see an even cuter version of SpongeBob…
You have 19 episodes to binge through.
And 7 more that have yet to be aired.
On the other hand, the latter spin-off explores Patrick’s very own late-night TV show.
You will get to see the starfish interact with his family.
Not to mention some occasional character appearances from the main cartoon as well.
So if you’re a big fan of the big pink sea star…
You’ll have 13 episodes to watch right now.
And many more to come.
Of course, you might have your doubts.
But I can confirm that they’re equally as fun and great as the original series.
Therefore, it’s an excellent choice if you’re looking for a quick pick-me-up.
Plus, a study shows being happy can improve your health.
So maybe giving the spinoffs a chance won’t just elevate your mood.
They might also make your overall health feel better.
