Susan Bones background
Susan’s born back in 1979 – 1980.
She’s also a half-blood. So one of her parents was non-magical.
And she became part of the Bones Family.
But were they your regular wizarding bunch?
No, the Bones were so much more.
They were actually a very distinguished bloodline. A family that’s well-recognized in the wizarding world.
On top of that, they also supported the Order of the Phoenix during the war. A society of great wizards and witches. And the group that fought against the rise of Voldemort, the most dangerous Dark Wizard of all time.
Plus, it’s not just their connections.
Many of its members were known for their magical skills.
For example, Susan’s uncle Edgar Bones.
He’s actually an original member of the Order of the Phoenix.
In fact, even Alastor Moody recognized his abilities. Who’s 1 of the strongest wizards in the modern era of Harry Potter.
But, it’s too early to say Susan’s got a bright future ahead of her. Because the wizarding war against Voldemort took her family.
Nearly all of them.
And although we don’t know what happened to Susan’s parents…
Her grandparents, cousins, uncles, and aunts died at the hands of the Dark Lord.
All of them but her auntie Amelia Bones.
What’s worse, a study shows the death of a family can be dangerous for one’s health.
In fact, survivors are extremely prone to mental disorders.
And I can only imagine what kind of pain Susan’s going through at a young age.
A young witch headed off to school
Yet, despite her sad early childhood…
Susan Bones’s not going to break tradition.
She lived on to carry her family’s name.
And the young witch would attend Hogwarts in 1991. The famous British school of witchcraft and wizardry.
In fact, it’s the very same year Harry Potter entered too.
But can you guess what house she’s sorted into?
Well, it turned out Susan’s a lot like her Aunt Amelia. A witch known for her strong sense of justice.
Because she became a member of the Hufflepuff House. The name that resonates with loyalty and fairness.
In fact, it’s definitely a must-watch scene from the movies.
And I strongly suggest reliving those moments in Hogwarts:
Susan Bones occupation
Susan’s a student. And she studied at Hogwarts from 1991 – 1998.
The young witch made many friends during her 1st year.
Like the friendly wizard Justin Finch-Fletchley.
And even the naive Hannah Abbott.
In fact, she’s no ordinary girl. Hannah’s also a witch from a distinguished bloodline too.
But just like everyone else…
Susan Bones spent the year learning about basic magic and spells.
“That sounds pretty normal. Does she do anything exciting?”
There’s only so much you can do at 11 years old.
You’re not expected to cast powerful spells just yet.
However, Susan met Hermione Granger. A very intelligent witch. But someone that came off as a know-it-all too.
Susan’s new friend was a member of Gryffindor House. A name that’s famous for brave and courageous students.
In fact, that 2 got along very well. As we’d see them share many scenes in the films.
For example, they worked together in Herbology class. The study of magical plants.

Not to mention their shared crush on Gilderoy Lockhart. A new professor who taught them defense spells.
Susan’s 5th year and onward
The young witch’s early years were rather tame.
In fact, not much would happen.
However, her 5th year at Hogwarts ramped things up.
For starters, it’s when she became a lot closer to Harry Potter.
How did that happen, you ask?
Well, Harry was under disciplinary hearing.
He used underage magic. And that meant he casted spells outside school grounds.
But can you guess who else’s there for the trial?
Well, it’s none other than Susan’s aunt, Amelia Bones.
In fact, she’s the reason why Harry Potter received a fair trial.
Amelia didn’t let biased people in the room sway the decision.
And Susan’s aunt shared everything that happened during the trial.
Even when Harry showed off his Patronus. A powerful defense spell that protects a witch or wizard.
And Harry Potter’s Patronus took the form of a stag.
Susan also had to take her O.W.L. exams that year
It’s a series of difficult magical tests.
“But aren’t assessments normal in Hogwarts?”
Well, it’s not your regular quiz.
O.W.L. exams decided if you could continue studying at the school.
As a result, Susan Bones became very stressed.
And yet, that’s not even the worst part.
Everyone kept asking her questions. Because the criminals that killed her family were free.
You see, they managed to escape from Azkaban. The maximum-security prison for magical convicts.
And could you manage all of that mess as a young teen?
If it were me, I might even break.
Not to mention, research shows too much stress can be dangerous. Especially for a student’s mental health.
You see, the strains got worse with heavier workloads.
And since Susan also coped with everyone asking about her family.
I can only imagine how much pressure she felt at that moment.
Getting mixed up with a bad crowd
Also in the very same year, Susan would get in trouble.
But it’s not for pranks or causing a mess.
She’s the victim of bullying.
In fact, Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle also took her wand. 2 mean Slytherins that were being devious as always.
Luckily enough, Harry and his friends helped her.
And Susan managed to get her wand back.
However, if they weren’t there in the nick of time…
I worry if there’d be anything left of her magical tool.
Susan Bones character
I’ll be honest.
Everything I’ve said so far makes Susan look bad.
The Bones witch seems to get the short end of the stick very often.
And considering her clash with bullies…
Susan appears to have trouble standing her ground.
But you shouldn’t count her out.
In fact, she’s also a hero in her own right. A life lesson I’ve learned from Harry Potter.
And that’s because she fought at the Battle of Hogwarts. The final climactic moment of the 2nd Wizarding War. A battle between Voldemort’s dark forces and the wizarding world.
Susan couldn’t stand on the sidelines.
She wanted to help her friends and fight for a good cause. And exchanged spells with many Death Eaters. Pure-blood supremacists and loyal followers of the Dark Lord.
Susan Bones even witnessed the final duel between Harry Potter and Voldemort.
Sadly, we don’t get to see much of her in battle.
In fact, Susan doesn’t even appear in the film’s background.
However, her name doesn’t appear in the list of the deceased.
So we can at least confirm she’s alive.
“Wow, Susan’s really stepped up her game. What happens next for her?”
Well, the story doesn’t explore her life after the 2nd Wizarding War.
So we can’t say for sure what Susan Bones ended up doing.
But considering her family’s name and Susan’s experience…
I think she went on to follow in her Aunt’s footsteps.
And worked to provide justice in her later life.
3 most famous Susan Bones quotes
#1: “My aunt says you can produce a fully corporeal Patronus, is that true?”
Although Harry Potter can cast a Patronus…
We can’t say the same for Susan Bones.
The books and films never explored her magical talents.
And despite her ancestry being very gifted in magic…
It’s never hinted.
#2: “She’s my auntie. I’m Susan Bones.”
Susan’s aunt was Amelia Bones.
She’s the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. The most important department in the ministry’s office.
#3: “What do you want? Harry! Hermione, Ron hey! Please, help!”
Susan may be a member of the Bones family.
But she’s not a distinguished witch just yet.
In fact, Susan’s still got a lot to learn.
And she often found herself asking for help when others kept pestering her.
More facts about Susan Bones
#1: A member of Dumbledore’s Army

If you’re wondering how Susan held her own against Death Eaters…
Well, she’s actually part of Dumbledore’s Army. The secret organization led by Harry Potter.
Harry taught Susan Bones how to defend herself against the Dark Arts.
So no matter what happened…
She could always save herself and those around her.
And when the Battle of Hogwarts started…
Her practice and studies came in very handy.
#2: Accidentally lost her leg
Do you remember when Susan got so stressed?
Well, she ended up losing her leg too.
You see, she was learning Apparition in her 6th year. A powerful spell that allowed the user to travel instantly.
But did everything go exactly as planned?
Sadly, it didn’t.
Susan Bones accidentally teleported only a part of her body.
And that’s how she lost 1 of her legs.
Luckily enough, the professors helped her get it back.
However, she’s still in shock.
And I don’t she’ll be trying the Apparate spell anytime soon.
#3: The last living member of the Bones’ bloodline
If you thought Susan’s tragic family couldn’t get any sadder…
Well, it did.
You see, her aunt’s murdered in July 1996.
And can you guess who killed Amelia Bones?
It’s actually Dark Lord Voldemort.

The most dangerous wizard himself faced off with Susan’s aunt.
What’s more, evidence from the crime scene showed she put up a good fight too.
As a result, Susan Bones might just be the last of her family.
“What about her parents?”
We never saw or heard about them.
Susan doesn’t even mention her father or mother as well.
So fans guess they could’ve passed away too.
#4: A skilled magical duellist
I know it sounds off-brand…
Especially since she had trouble with 2 Slytherins.
However, Susan would pay them back.
And during 1 confrontation, the Hufflepuff got the upper hand.
You see, Draco Malfoy, Gregory Goyle, and Vincent Crabbe were up to no good again.
But did Susan just let it slide?
No, of course not.
She banded together with her friends.
And they casted dark charms on the 3 mean wizards. Powerful spells that turned them into slugs.
So even at a young age, Susan’s pretty good at dueling.
A skill that only got better as she grew older.
Plus, let’s not forget that Susan Bones’s a member of the dueling club.
Therefore, it’s not a surprise that she’s quick on her feet and fast with her wand.
Of course, she’s not as powerful as Harry Potter.
But Susan can handle herself pretty well.
#5: She understood Harry Potter
Harry Potter often felt left out. And it’s only natural given his past.
It’s why people looked at him strangely.
Plus, other students talked behind his back too.
What’s more, who wouldn’t?
His parents died. And there were rumors about him being evil.
Sure, Harry did have fellow Gryffindors by his side.
But nobody shared the same thing he’s going through.
However, that’d change because of Susan Bones.
You see, the 2 weren’t so different.
Other students kept asking about her family. And things only got worse when Susan’s auntie was murdered.
As a result, out of all the people in Hogwarts…
Only Susan Bones truly understood what Harry’s feeling.
The pressure and anxiety shared only by those with the same experience.
