Vincent Crabbe background
Vincent Crabbe was born between September 1979 and August 1980.
But were the Crabbes your ordinary witches and wizards?
No, they were far more dangerous.
Everyone in the family was either a Dark Wizard or Death Eater.
And to jog your memory…
Vincent’s father and grandfather were followers of Dark Lord Voldemort.
The very same evil forces that shook the magical world.
Vincent’s also a pure-blood.
Meaning, both his parents were capable of using magic.
But they weren’t the good kind of wizarding ancestry…
In fact, the Crabbe Family looked down on muggles. They believed in blood purity.
So anyone that couldn’t use magic was believed to be lesser than them.
“Yet Vincent’s the family member that changed their history, right?”
Well, as inspiring as that sounds…
It’s the exact opposite.
Vincent Crabbe followed in his father’s footsteps.
On top of that, he grew up to become even much worse than him.
And if you thought Snape killing Dumbledore was bad enough…
Vincent actually tried to burn Harry and his friends to death.
Vincent’s time at Hogwarts
The young Crabe attended Hogwarts in 1991. The very same year Harry Potter entered the wizarding school.
Vincent was sorted into Slytherin. A house that’s infamous for ambitious and cunning students.
Did Vincent Crabbe live up to these traits?
He actually did, but only the worst parts.
In fact, Vincent’s a bully through and through. And he’d tag along with Draco Malfoy and Gregory Goyle to mess with others.
For example, they’d pick on Susan Bones. And since it’s 1 against 3, the Slytherins took away her wand.
Sure, Harry and his friends did end up saving her.
But that doesn’t excuse any of the bullying Vincent’s done.
On top of that, he only became worse with time.
And when the Battle of Hogwarts happened…
Can you guess whose side Vincent’s on?
The young Crabbe fought for Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
Vincent Crabbe occupation
Vincent’s a student. So he didn’t have a proper job just yet.
Plus, given his sour personality…
I doubt he’s getting accepted anywhere soon either.
But does that mean he did nothing but bully people and play pranks?
Well, not necessarily.
When Dolores Umbridge’s made Headmistress of Hogwarts. She created the Inquisitorial Squad. A select group of students that would enforce her rules.
And can you guess who signed up for the job?
Well, it’s none other than Vincent Crabbe himself. Alongside other students like Draco Malfoy and Millicent Bulstrode.
Sadly, it’s short-lived.
Dolores Umbridge’s suspension put an end to the squad’s existence.
But at the very least, we can confirm Vincent’s good for something other than being a troublemaker.
Vincent Crabbe character
Vincent Crabbe’s usually seen with Goyle and Malfoy.
And he acts more like a lackey to Draco most of the time.
He’s also rather large which made him look a lot more intimidating.
But don’t let his size fool you. Vincent’s got quite the pair of legs.
And he’ll beat you in a race despite his physique.
In his later years at Hogwarts, Vincent’s evil side grew stronger.
In fact, when Voldemort took over the school. Vincent enjoyed torturing other students.
And if a study shows that these experiences can break someone’s mental health…
Not to mention leave the victim with stress disorders…
It’s an understatement to say that Vincent Crabbe’s lost it.
But would he get away with all these terrible things?
Well, it would come to bite him back in the butt.
And his actions caused his own downfall.
More facts about Vincent Crabbe
#1: Very skilled at the Dark Arts
Vincent’s not the brightest.
Even Severus Snape told him to study more if he wanted to pass.
But when it came to the Dark Arts…
Vincent Crabbe’s a natural.
In fact, he’s actually very skilled. And he’d shine in class under Amycus Carrow‘s instruction.
But his greatest feat?
Well, Vincent casted a Fiendfyre. A dangerous spell that burned everything in its path.
And no ordinary wizard could ever use this curse. Unless they had the mastery and intent of causing serious harm.
Sadly, in the movies. They had to use Goyle’s character instead.
(Vincent’s actor got into some serious trouble before shooting the film.)
But that doesn’t take away the sheer power of the spell. And I recommend watching it again:
#2: 1 of the most ambitious and cunning Slytherins
It may sound hard to believe.
But it’s actually true.
Vincent Crabbe’s 1 of the most ambitious and cunning Slytherins out there.
And what makes him so different?
He puts his ambition above everything.
Like when Draco Malfoy couldn’t face Harry Potter.
Did Vincent let Draco boss him?
No, he told Malfoy to step aside. Showing someone he’d been with for so long that he doesn’t need him anymore.
So when you look deeper into it…
Vincent never was Draco’s friend. He’s simply with him because it aligned with his goals.
And when he couldn’t serve that purpose…
The devious Crabbe tossed him aside.
Of course, it’d eventually lead to his death.
In fact, a study shows that ambition can have consequences too.
And since Vincent let himself get carried away…
It’s no surprise why his life got cut short.
#3: His choices decided the life he created for himself
Although Vincent Crabbe didn’t have the best of circumstances…
Like coming from a family of Death Eaters.
Or being surrounded by people of bad influence on him.
These would pale in comparison to his own choices.
Sure, it seemed like everything pushed Vincent to be evil.
But nobody ever took away his power to choose.
And the young Crabbe could’ve always chosen to be different.
So to quote the wise and great wizard Albus Dumbledore:
“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
#4: A pretty decent flyer
Sure, Vincent’s not the best on a broomstick.
But he’s still pretty good at flying.
Not to mention, he became 1 of the beaters for Slytherin. Who’s in charge of keeping the other players safe during the match.
Of course, Vincent’s size and strength played a big role in getting the spot.
However, you can’t put those to good use without flying skills.
And that’s why the young Crabbe’s a pretty decent flyer compared to most people.
#5: A lot smarter than you remember
Most fans think Vincent’s really dumb.
And while he’s no Ravenclaw…
He’s actually smarter than you remember.
You see, Vincent’s played off as comic relief in the movies.
But in the books, he’s a bit more intelligent than his friend Gregory Goyle.
