The wizarding world revolved around Harry Potter.
Plus, his name’s on the cover.
So there’s no denying he was under the spotlight.

17 reasons why Ron Weasley is the best character
#1: He’s a Weasley
Let’s start with something simple.
Ron didn’t come from a rich family.
Nor did he have prophecy backing him up.
He was a Weasley.
And the Weasleys were poor.
Not to mention Ron had to use hand-me-downs while at Hogwarts.
But none of these stopped him from putting a smile on his face.
He was always so resilient despite not having much.
In fact, he was always ready to share.
For example, welcoming Harry Potter into his family like a brother.
On top of that, he embodied a lot of the Weasley values.
Like their pro-muggle beliefs.
And Ron’s kindness and understanding were true to his family name.
#2: The most relatable character
Harry Potter was seen as the chosen one.
And Hermione Granger was marveled as the clever one.
So where does that leave Ron Weasley?
Well, he’s the most relatable character.
Sure, he might not be as powerful as Harry.
Nor was he as smart as Hermione…
But Ron felt real to everyone reading the books or watching the films.
Sure, he may have been average compared to his closest friends.
Yet that never stopped him from doing great things.
And the idea of stepping up to the task even if it scares you is what makes Ron Weasley the best.
#3: Always stands up for his friends
The story carried an important message about friendship.
And it told us how powerful connecting with people could be.
In fact, even research agrees too.
Because you can find support during your toughest battles through friends.
And if there’s 1 wizard who always stood by his buddies…
Ron Weasley was that special person.
For example, he didn’t let Draco Malfoy get away with calling Hermione Granger a mudblood.
It was a disrespectful slur, and Ron was ready to hex Draco for it.
And what about the time when Harry’s godfather was in trouble?
Ron stood by his friend and went with Harry to save Sirius Black.
#4: Faced his fear of spiders
Ron Weasley might be a wizard.
But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t afraid of anything.
And like a lot of people who can’t stand the creepy crawlies…
Ron Weasley had a fear of spiders.
Yet did he chicken out when Harry Potter had to go to Aragog?
No, Ron went with his friend deep into the lair of giant spiders.
And even if every step brought him closer to his greatest fear…
He stood there and faced everything which took a lot of guts on his part.
In fact, it’s a must-watch movie clip for any Ron Weasley fan:
#5: An underdog’s story
Most fans think Harry Potter’s an underdog.
And there may be truth to the belief too.
Like how the odds were always stacked against him…
Forced into fighting the most dangerous wizard of all time as a mere teenager by prophecy.
But have you ever considered life from Ron’s perspective?
All of his siblings had great achievements and became successful.
For example, Bill Weasley was a curse breaker.
And he didn’t just remove dangerous spells like your average wizard.
He was so good that the department transferred him to Egypt.
Plus, don’t even get me started on the twins, Fred and George Weasley.
They may have been mischievous, but they had a knack for business.
And the twins opened up a thriving joke shop, the Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes.
Not to mention, Ron Weasley was Harry Potter’s best friend.
As a result, Ron was always in Harry’s shadow.
But it never stopped Ron Weasley from doing great things.
And that’s why he’s the best character.
#6: He learns from his mistakes
Ron Weasley isn’t perfect.
And he made a lot of mistakes.
But the best thing about him was that he learned from them.
For example, when Hermione got mad at Ron for not asking her out to a dance at the Yule Ball.
During Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour‘s wedding…
Asking for Hermione’s hand to dance was the first thing Ron set out to do.
Plus, let’s not forget the hunt for Horcruxes. Dangerous and powerful magical artifacts that made Voldemort immortal.
Ron was worried sick about his parents.
And he left Harry and Hermione because of his emotions.
But did Ron Weasley leave his friends to fend for themselves at such an impossible task?
No, he swallowed his pride and came back.
#7: Could lighten up any situation
Most people love a great sense of humor.
In fact, even a study shows that jokes can have lots of actual benefits too.
And it can reduce stress levels and anxiety.
So what’s any of this got to do with Ron Weasley, you ask?
Well, he’s by far the only wizard who could lighten up any situation.
So even if things seemed at the worst…
Ron never shied away from making a witty remark to ease everyone’s mind.
For example, when Hermione had a tough time choosing what books to take with her.
Ron commented:
“I forgot we’ll be hunting down Voldemort in a mobile library.”
And it was moments like these that made many fans fall in love with Ron Weasley.
#8: He’s no stranger to sacrifice
Ron Weasley may have been used as comic relief way too often in the movies…
But don’t let his happy-go-lucky personality fool you.
Because that kid’s got a heart of gold, and he’s no stranger to sacrifice.
For example, in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, do you remember the giant magic chess game?
Well, it was Ron Weasley that led Hermione and Harry to victory.
In fact, he even put himself in harm’s way so Harry could advance.
And for someone so young to go that far for their friend…
Ron definitely deserved more attention.
#9: Smarter than you think
Ron Weasley might not be the smartest member of the trio.
But even if he may be clumsy at times…
He’s got a good head on his shoulders that can think fast.
For example, during The Battle of Hogwarts, everything felt chaotic. Wizards and witches were fighting left and right against Voldemort’s army.
And Hermione and Ron needed to find Harry ASAP.
Unfortunately, Harry’s name didn’t appear on the Marauder’s Map. And that tool was supposed to show everyone in Hogwarts.
But when Hermione was out of ideas, it was Ron who stepped up and figured out Harry was in the Room of Requirement.
Because it’s a magical room that didn’t show up on the map.
#10: He learned parseltongue
Parseltongue was the language of serpents. And it was usually the heirs of Slytherin that could use it.
As a result, it’s no surprise why so many rumors followed Harry Potter.
Only people from that bloodline could learn to speak it so well.
So what’s this got to do with Ron Weasley then?
Well, he actually learned how to speak in parseltongue just by listening to Harry Potter.
Because Harry often mumbled these words in his sleep.
And if it weren’t for Ron’s quick-wittedness…
He and Hermione couldn’t have gotten into the Chamber of Secrets. A secret dungeon that had a basilisk fang that they used to destroy a Horcrux.
#11: His flaws
Ron had his shortcomings.
For example, his self-confidence wasn’t always the best.
Plus, he had a lot of insecurities about himself too.
But that’s what made Ron Weasley such a great character.
Nobody’s supposed to be perfect.
Yet he grew up to become the best version of himself.
#12: So much character growth
If you thought the reveal of Snape loving Lily Potter was peak character growth…
Then you should take another look at how Ron Weasley changed throughout the story.
He was a young wizard with big shoes to fill.
Not to mention all the talented people beside him.
And Ron also battled with his insecurities.
But none of these stopped him from becoming the wizard he is today.
He became an Auror. Ron was a wizard trained to catch dark wizards, and he even helped fight the corruption in the Ministry of Magic.
And after his 2 years of service, he even helped out his brother, George, with the joke shop.
But most important of all…
Ron Weasley got married to the girl of his dreams.
And Ron and Hermione finally got together after so many bumps along the way.
#13: A big foodie
Although food might seem like a very shallow thing to praise someone for…
Wouldn’t you enjoy eating as much as you wanted if you were in the wizarding world?
For example, if you made the perfect batch of Sunday Roast.
You could duplicate that dish as many times as you want with the help of magic.
So how does this tie in with Ron Weasley, you ask?
Well, it always felt like he was the only one enjoying all the delicious meals at Hogwarts.
And many fans loved him for being so real…
Because a lot of us would’ve done the same if we had an endless buffet right in front of us.
Like when Ron brought a bunch of snacks with him on the train to Hogwarts.
Or when he had a plate full of chicken and a drumstick in each hand.
#14: Could think outside the box
The golden trio got into many sticky situations.
And Hermione’s plans were often the go-to solution for everything.
But even Ron Weasley could think outside the box and come up with the best answers too.
For example, when Harry and Hermione had to lure out Dolores Umbridge. An evil witch who was cruel and extremely arrogant.
Ron Weasley was left with the task of leading the rest of their friends to safety.
So when they were cornered by Draco Malfoy and his buddies.
Ron asked them if he could eat some of his candies before Draco took them away.
“Wait, that doesn’t sound like a good plan at all. How’s that supposed to help?”
Well, they weren’t ordinary candies.
These ones made you puke.
And when Draco and his buddies took the sweets and ate them for themselves.
They actually fell for Ron’s trap.
In fact, even Hermione said it was a genius idea.
#15: Underappreciated magical talents
Ron Weasley might not be ranked as the strongest wizard in Harry Potter.
But he’s still very talented.
And a lot of his skills go underappreciated.
For example, he got an “exceeds expectations” mark on his O.W.L. exam for charms. A series of difficult tests on spells that could change the properties of objects.
Not to mention Ron could also cast a Patronus in the form of a Jack Russell Terrier. The strongest defensive spells in the wizarding world.
#16: He wielded the Sword of Gryffindor
The Sword of Gryffindor is a powerful magical weapon that only showed itself to those worthy.
You had to show great courage and loyalty.
So what did Ron Weasley do?
Well, he jumped straight into the pond to save Harry Potter.
And that’s why the sword recognized Ron Weasley.
#17: Broke Voldemort’s silencing charm
At the climax of The Battle of Hogwarts…
Voldemort put everyone under a silencing charm.
A powerful spell that made everyone mute.
But can you guess who broke through first?
Well, it’s none other than Ron Weasley.
And in honor of his friend Harry Potter, showing his loyalty until the very end…
Ron said:
“He beat you.”
Of course, Harry Potter’s sacrifice did help weaken the silencing charm.
But it was Ron Weasley that mustered the courage to talk back to Voldemort.
And it gave everybody else the strength to shout too.
