(2023) SpongeBob vs Aquaman: Who Would Win A Fight?

“That’s easy. The King of the Seven Seas wins.”

… Is what most people are thinking.

However, you’re not giving SpongeBob enough credit.

And you’ll be shocked to learn how strong the sea sponge can be.

In fact, a battle to the death between the 2 will leave you speechless.

SpongeBob vs Aquaman – who would win a fight?

SpongeBob Squarepants would win in a fight against Aquaman. In the Nicktoon, the yellow table sponge’s powers are unrivaled. He can even destroy the universe. But under the right circumstances, Aquaman also boasts a small fighting chance.

“I don’t think a small sponge could handle a superhero.”

In most cases, that belief would be true.

There’s no way a sea sponge could hurt a superhuman.

All they do is clean up bacteria and make food for other marine life.

However, this is SpongeBob we’re talking about.

The same guy who’s been framed for the murder of Mr. Krabs.

And if you think fry cooking’s his only skill set.

You’re dead wrong.

For example, back in season 7, in The Wreck of the Mauna Loa episode.

SpongeBob miraculously teleports in front of his best friend, Patrick, in a game of tag.

Even when the sea star is already running really fast in the opposite direction of the table sponge.

What’s more, if we go all the way back to season 4, in the Born to Be Wild episode.

The yellow sea sponge can literally break the 4th wall.

He can ride the transitions and magically appear wherever the scene takes him.

As a result, it’s wrong to underestimate SpongeBob in a fight.

The Krusty Krabs’ famous fry cook has numerous abilities.

Skills that can even put a hero’s name to shame.

“If that’s the case, then who’s stronger?”

Well, Aquaman’s no slouch either.

He’s got plenty of feats under his belt.

And all of them are worthy enough to make him extremely strong.

For example, in Aquaman Vol. 1: The Trench (The New 52), from issue #4.

The guy pushed 2 tectonic plates by himself.

He pressed them together to prevent the Mariana Trench from collapsing.

And do you know how heavy those plates are?

Around an average of 4.07 × 1019 metric tonnes (4.486407035462299575 × 1019 tons).

So just imagine how much force you would need to move them while swimming.

It’s proof of just how strong Aquaman can be.

Also, don’t let me get started on durability.

The King of the Seven Seas can swim in lava and come out unharmed.

Which is around 1,300° F and 2,200° F (700°C and 1,200° C).

And if he can do that without feeling anything at all…

Who knows what Aquaman’s limits are in terms of handling impossible temperatures?

However, as shocking as it is to say…

It’s actually an unfair match-up.

And that’s because SpongeBob carries the Toon Force.

An ability held by all cartoon characters that lets them defy all physical laws of nature.

Just because they want to do something funny.

“Wait, so how do we make things fair?”

Luckily, there’s one way to even out the scales.

We have to consider both characters and their abilities at their prime.

And just like how we pitted SpongeBob against Goku.

Both characters must be at their peak performance.

So, in this case, Aquaman has access to all of his craziest abilities.

Likewise, the gullible yellow sponge receives the same treatment too.

And with all of those details out of the way.

There’s only one thing left we need to discuss:

5 reasons why SpongeBob would win a fight against Aquaman

#1: Punches and kicks don’t hurt SpongeBob

SpongeBob Would Win a Fight Against Aquaman Because Punches and Kicks Don't Hurt SpongeBob

Yes, it’s true.

The yellow sea sponge is near invulnerable to physical attacks.

Back in The Bully episode, SpongeBob gets on a dangerous flounder’s bad side.

As a result, the mean fish launches a number of punches.

But what do you think happens next?

Well, none of the hits actually land on the table sponge.

All of them simply bounce off of his body.

So, if Aquaman tries to brute force his way through the fight.

He’s out of luck.

Even superhuman strength is useless in the face of near-invulnerability.

And unless the underwater king thinks fast on his feet…

SpongeBob will have more than enough time to karate chop his way to victory.

Plus, if he ever has any trouble catching Aquaman…

The yellow sea sponge can always transform into InvinciBubble.

A version that lets him blow indestructible bubbles to trap his enemies.

“But can’t  Aquaman use magic and manipulate the weather?”

Yes, the King of the Seven Seas has some talent for magic.

And he can also control storms and shoot bolts of lightning using his trident.

However, will this be enough to kill SpongeBob?

Sadly, it might not be.

You see, the cheerful yellow sponge has a cartoon body.

One strong enough to handle almost all kinds of destructive power.

For example, he even withstood the force of all the Earth’s water exploding on his back.

An amount of energy only comparable to multiple nuclear bombs.

As a result, it will turn into a battle of fatigue for the underwater king.

He will throw out everything he can until exhaustion.

And, soon enough, he’ll have to give up.

In fact, research shows mental stress can worsen physical performance.

So the experience of losing to a sponge the size of 10 cm (4 in.) will probably break him.

Which will eventually force him to surrender.

#2: SpongeBob can effortlessly destroy the universe

While it might look impossible.

It’s not.

In fact, the yellow sponge has already erased reality before.

For example, back in season 11, in The String episode.

SpongeBob tugs on a piece of thread.

But was this any normal snag on someone’s clothes?

No.

It was a piece of string that held the universe together.

Yet SpongeBob hardly struggles to pull it.

And after a few seconds of belting out a simple tune.

The world goes completely blank.

In those mere moments, SpongeBob had already destroyed the universe.

What’s more, all the way back in season 1, in the Home Sweet Pineapple episode.

SpongeBob shows off he can easily turn the entire world upside down.

Also completely defying gravity at the same time.

A power that will definitely triumph over the King of the Seven Seas.

“Wait, isn’t Aquaman capable of busting entire worlds too?”

Likewise, he’s no stranger to wiping out realities as well.

Most notably, when he destroyed Thule.

A self-constructed dimension that mirrored the underwater king’s universe.

And because it started bleeding into his world and destroying things…

He used up all his trident’s power to break apart the alternate reality.

However, there’s one big difference between SpongeBob and Aquaman’s feats.

The former didn’t even break a sweat.

Meanwhile, the latter had to consume all of his weapon’s energy.

So, if the gullible yellow sponge were to go all out.

Who knows what kind of maximum force he can unleash?

Well, definitely more than enough to wipe out the King of the Seven Seas.

#3: Mind control doesn’t work on SpongeBob

“Don’t you know Aquaman has marine telepathy? He can summon an army against the sponge.”

That’s true.

In fact, simply calling it a means of communication is underselling the ability.

The underwater king doesn’t just talk to sea creatures.

He can make them obey his commands.

Which essentially works as mind control.

A devastating power that should put SpongeBob on his knees, right?

Well, it’s not that simple.

That type of superhuman ability doesn’t work on the gullible yellow table sponge.

For example, when Mermaid Man was under the control of Plankton.

SpongeBob simply fed his favorite hero a Krabby Patty.

And it made the guy come back to his senses.

So if Aquaman tries anything funny.

A quick snack for the sea sponge can make mind control pointless.

Plus, even without a Krabby Patty, SpongeBob’s still quite resistant.

For example, the table sponge withstood Plankton’s efforts to control him.

His sheer willpower allowed him to take charge of his body again.

Something he will also be able to do when facing Aquaman.

“But what about the army? Surely he can’t make enough Krabby Patties?”

Sadly, it’s not looking too bright for the underwater king here, either.

In the original pilot episode of the Spongebob Squarepants series, Help Wanted

Thousands of anchovies started swarming into the Krusty Krab.

All of them demanded a Krabby Patty to eat.

And does SpongeBob back down?

No.

He picked up his spatula and started making burgers like crazy.

And in a matter of seconds, all of the hungry fish were fed.

So if Aquaman calls an army to fight.

It will be a normal work day for the yellow sponge.

#4: SpongeBob’s extreme regeneration factor

Let’s say the underwater king manages to land a hit.

One strong enough that can’t be deflected by the sponge’s body.

That type of damage has to hurt, right?

Well, not exactly.

One of SpongeBob’s main abilities includes extreme regeneration.

In fact, a study shows that sponges can rapidly heal their wounds.

And, in time, that broken tissue is as good as new.

Plus, the yellow table sponge has lost his limbs multiple times.

But does it ever affect him?

Absolutely not.

He can simply grow them back in mere seconds.

And, if he wanted to, could also make extras.

So unless Aquaman can fire a blast strong enough to erase the yellow sponge from existence.

Any pain he can inflict will just heal.

And everything else that’s torn off SpongeBob’s body simply grows back.

“Even so, at least he can’t dish out the same damage to the King of the Seas.”

While the table sponge might look uninspiring in a battle.

He has a lot of weapons.

Most importantly, his giant magical pencil.

A tool that lets him create and erase anything.

So if SpongeBob feels like it.

He can easily draw an army of doodles to stand by his side.

And if Aquaman isn’t too careful.

All it takes is one swipe of the eraser to remove the underwater king’s limbs.

#5: SpongeBob can clone himself

If you thought one sponge was dangerous.

Can you imagine what 100 happy-go-lucky sea sponges would be like?

At that point, it’s a no-brainer.

You see, one of SpongeBob’s main gags is the ability to multiply.

For example, in the Pressure episode.

He shows off to all his friends how he can clone himself through budding.

A process of reproduction that creates new life.

And if every little new spongey bud can have a fraction of SpongeBob’s powers.

Aquaman won’t stand a chance against the onslaught.

“But doesn’t the King of the Seas have more battle experience?”

Well, you got me there.

The yellow table sponge has no formal training.

So when it comes to tactics.

He has none.

In contrast, Aquaman has defeated many foes.

He’s also part of the Justice League.

An organization of the world’s greatest superheroes.

However, will this be enough to defeat a god-like being such as SpongeBob?

It’s not.

No amount of battle experience can surpass overwhelming might.

How will the battle play out?

Due to the large gap in powers.

Aquaman will push himself to the limits.

All for the sake of making SpongeBob surrender.

But try as he might with his trident, telepathy, and superhuman strength.

None will have an effect on the yellow table sponge.

And the second the King of the Seven Seas loses steam.

SpongeBob would land a killing blow.

Or, maybe even erase him from existence.

In fact, if you want to see a video of their battle in real-time.

Here’s a must-watch from Death Battle!:

“But would SpongeBob hurt someone that looks like his hero?”

In a different scenario.

I doubt the yellow sponge would even try to hurt Aquaman.

He looks too much like his favorite hero.

Mermaid Man.

And even if they share a few blows.

SpongeBob always places friendship and kindness above all.

So before anyone gets seriously hurt.

The yellow table sponge will try to make amends.

Which is a fitting ending for two characters that are good people.

Bonus: forcing someone even stronger than SpongeBob to battle.

Did you know there’s a being just as scary as the yellow table sponge?

Well, it’s his best friend, Patrick the starfish.

If you can remember The String episode.

He also makes an appearance.

And that very same thread that SpongeBob carried to unravel the world?

The sea star used it for dental floss.

What’s more, the guy’s no stranger to going berserk.

Like in the Valentine’s Day episode, where he went crazy in an amusement park.

All because he didn’t like SpongeBob’s gift for him.

And research shows anger can improve athletic performance.

Which could further increase Patrick’s strength.

So why does this all matter?

You see, the sea star isn’t immune to mind control.

As a result, it would be Aquaman’s ace up his sleeve.

In this scenario.

The King of the Seven Seas forces Patrick Star to obey his commands.

But SpongeBob wouldn’t try to hurt his friend.

Worse, he won’t have enough time to make a Krabby Patty while fighting him too.

And while the two best friends are busy duking it out.

Aquaman manages to sneak in a killing blow.

Beating the mighty SpongeBob as he whispers:

“You cheated…”
