As much as I’d like to dive deep into her backstory…
There’s not much we know about Amelia.
In fact, her life’s barely explored in the films or books.
And while she made appearances in real-time on movie screens…
Sadly, we don’t learn more about her past.
On the bright side, we have snippets.
A few details that can help us piece together her background.
For example, we can look at the 1st Wizarding War. A disastrous conflict caused by Dark Lord Voldemort. The most dangerous dark wizard of all time.
But what does this have to do with Amelia Bones, you ask?
Well, unfortunately, her family was killed during these years.
What’s worse, it’s not just 1 person. Amelia lost nearly everyone.
She had to say goodbye to her mother, father, and even her brother, Edgar.
Not to mention, Edgar’s wife and children also died at the hands of Death Eaters. The dark wizards and loyal followers of Voldemort.
And according to a study, the burden of loss can be dangerous. It can severely impact one’s mental health.
So I can only imagine what type of pain Amelia had to endure.
However, she has at least 1 surviving family:
Her niece, Susan Bones. A witch that would study at Hogwarts during Harry Potter’s time. The premier school of witchcraft and wizardry.

But despite all the cards stacked against her…
Amelia didn’t back down.
She continued to strive hard.
And after her studies, she’d join the Ministry of Magic. It’s in charge of overseeing the magical community. And this 1 in particular’s the primary body keeping an eye on Great Britain.
Of course, she didn’t become head of the department on day 1.
Everybody’s got to start somewhere.
And Amelia Bones worked as a cleric. So she ran simple office tasks for the ministry.

Amelia Bones did work as a cleric. But it wouldn’t be for long.
Her hard work would pay off.
She even earned the nickname ‘Madam Bones’.
And later she became Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. The largest branch in the Ministry of Magic.
Plus, it’s also the most important 1 in the ministry too. Because every other department answers to them.
So can you imagine how much effort Amelia put out to get that position?
Well, if it’s anything like the real world…
She didn’t get there with luck alone.
Amelia went through grueling hours of proving herself.
In fact, her department’s also in charge of keeping the population informed.
So during the height of the Wizarding Wars, they’d hand out leaflets on how to stay safe.
“Wow, she sounds like a badass! What else does she end up doing?”
Well, Amelia’s like an unstoppable force.
And she didn’t slow down 1 bit.
Madam Bones became a member of the Wizengamot. The high court of law in Britain’s magical community. And it also worked as a parliament that observed court procedures and trials.
So if there’s one thing we can learn from Amelia Bones…
We should always believe in ourselves.
It seems even life’s toughest battles didn’t keep her down.
And it’s a wonderful life lesson from Harry Potter.

Of course, there’s no denying she’s cool.
And I don’t think anyone’s going to question her hard work.
I can’t expect anybody else puts in as much effort as Amelia Bones.
However, we haven’t even talked about her best trait.
You see, she’s no ordinary department head.
Bribes or biases can’t sway Madam Bones.
She’s always fair and understanding. (Which might be the reason why fans think she’s a Hufflepuff. A house that’s known for its strong sense of justice.)
For example, during the 2nd Wizarding War…
In the years 1995 – 1996, when Voldemort came back…
Harry Potter’s on disciplinary trial. He’s charged with using underage magic. A case when a witch or wizard under 17 years of age uses spells outside of school.
However, it seemed like everybody was against the boy.
Cornelius Fudge, minister for magic, wouldn’t believe a word from Harry Potter.
What’s worse, Dolores Umbridge, then undersecretary, questioned Harry as if he were guilty.
But what of Amelia Bones?
She remained neutral.
In fact, she’s the reason why everyone else in the courtroom saw the whole picture.
Madam Bones kept her composure and asked the important questions.
And she’d also be the one to call for the vote.

#1: An extremely talented witch
Research shows it takes a lot of work-life balance to reach Amelia’s level.
And that people who can balance the dynamics of life can achieve more.
However, Madam Bones’s more than just her job.
She’s actually an extremely talented witch.
In fact, she even held her own against Voldemort.
Sure, she did meet her end in July 1996.
But according to the evidence…
It took considerable effort for the Dark Lord to take her down. And this is the most dangerous dark wizard we’re talking about.
The same 1 that went toe-to-toe with Albus Dumbledore. A man who’s possibly the strongest wizard in his prime and headmaster of Hogwarts.
Of course, I’ll admit we never saw that fight happen.
So it’s also possible Voldemort toyed with her.
But for the Dark Lord himself to show up and murder Amelia…
She must’ve been a grave threat to their evil goals.
#2: Her brother’s in the original Order of the Phoenix
If you still don’t believe in Amelia’s strength…
We can look at her family.
You see, her brother Edgar’s no ordinary wizard.
He’s actually a member of the original Order of the Phoenix. A society of the strongest wizards and witches.
And if you think Harry Potter’s so powerful…
Members from the Order are equally (and sometimes even more) strong.
So if we’re looking at her heritage…
It seems magical strength runs in the blood.
And Amelia Bones’s no slouch either.
A whiz in government and a master at spells.
#3: Her memories are scattered by the Calamity
In the 2010s, a magical spell damaged the wizarding world. And it displaced many memories and magical objects.
In fact, some of these items went into the muggles’ cities too.
So the British Ministry of Magic had to act fast. Before any of the magic caused more damage.
But what does this have to do with Amelia Bones, you ask?
Well, a living memory of hers transferred to the normal world. And it’d lead to more breaches if left unattended.
Luckily enough, Amelia did manage to return back to her original timeline.
All thanks to the Statute of Secrecy Task Force. The organization in charge of containing magical outbreaks.
